A candidate for Advanced Diver is a capable, experienced and competent diver in their own right. This module is about fine tuning the skills that will make them a leader and guide to other Club Members.
There are 4 lectures in this module, covering:
- The role of the Advanced Diver.
- Advanced Diving.
- Organizing Diving from different platforms.
- Review of Diving conditions and first aid.
There is a minimum of a further 20 dives or 600 minutes underwater required to sign off as an Advanced Diver, with some additional skills to be mastered, including:
- Decompression dives.
- Dives in tidal waters.
- Drift dives.
An Advanced Diver will be involved in planning dive trips, marshaling dive trips, helping take less experienced divers into the water and would generally be one of the more experienced divers in the Club. This module will also require that the candidate has carried out both Dive Leading and Dive Management to a high standard.
Allowing sensible time for all the lectures and some revision time, ideally this classroom element of this module should take about 6 months to complete, signed off with a BSAC multiple choice examination.
The BSAC Student Pack for Advanced Diver costs £47.00 and this can be ordered through the Club Secretary when required.
*Advanced Diver is the highest BSAC qualification that can be signed off at Club level, however the higher qualification of First Class Diver is available to Branch nominees at BSAC regional level.
